Service Spotlight: 24 hour crisis line
The goal of HAVEN’s 24-hour crisis line is to offer support and resources to victims of domestic violence. The crisis line is also open to friends and family who are seeking information on how to help their loved ones. A trained advocate staffs the phone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. While on the line, advocates listen closely and thoughtfully to the caller. Advocates will create a safety plan with the caller and review options for the situation that may include our services or referrals to other community resources. We are lucky to have a new comprehensive website where we can refer callers who need more information about domestic violence and HAVEN services. It has been a helpful resource and tool for our clients....

Brit Meiers Wraps Up a Successful Year as HAVEN’s AmeriCorps VISTA
Yesterday was my last meeting with our Peer Educators. My eyes swelled with tears as I pulled away from the school, reminiscing about those kids who I might never see again. It made my heart sink a little when I thought of the ease they all seemed to have with saying goodbye. Then I took a deep breath in an attempt to pull myself together; after all, this is not my group, it is theirs, and it will continue to flourish even when I am gone. Peer Education has been a huge portion of my AmeriCorps VISTA position with HAVEN. I have trained a number of adolescents on how to talk to their school peers about healthy respectful relationships....

Community Collaborations: Local Police and Domestic Violence Response Team
HAVEN collaborates with police and other community responders in a group called the Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT), a collaborative organization of multiple disciplines working to provide the best comprehensive services to victims in a seamless and easy process. This group includes representatives from HAVEN, Bozeman and Belgrade Police Departments, Sheriff's Department, MSU VOICE Center, MSU Police Department, Sexual Assault Counseling Center, City and County Prosecutors, Hearts and Homes, Probation and Parole Department, and Victim Services. Each member of this eclectic group brings a different perspective to the community approach to domestic violence. The monthly meetings help to encourage collaboration and communication across services.
